12 sts + 16 rows = 4 in. [10 cm] in Wave Stitch pattern. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Catch the Wave Afghan Reviewed by Kerry Dong on 2014-12-21 *****
Thank you to all previous ratings and comments. I ended up using size 11 needles to get correct gauge. As previous commented, On row 6 of the pattern , instead of the 2nd K2tog, I switched to sl1, sl1, then knit those 2 slipped stitches together. On the light colored yarns it made the pattern more symmetrical appearing. At the end of each row, I just slipped the last stitch. Colors I tried: Afghan 1; A Colonial B Mountain sky C Delft. Afghan 2: A Grape B: Mixed berries C: Barrington.
Very easy pattern to follow, especially using markers.
