Knit Placemats and Crochet Napkin Rings

Lion Brand® Lion® Cotton - Cotton-Ease®

GAUGE:

16 stitches + 30 rows = 4 in. [10 cm] in Garter stitch (knit every row). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

Cast on 60 stitches with desired color.
Work even in Garter stitch (knit every row) until piece measures 11 in. [28 cm] from beginning.

Bind off.

FINISHING

Knit Placemats and Crochet Napkin Rings Reviewed by Jill Fuhrman on 2008-06-27 *****
I made these placemats several years ago using Cotton Plus (Cotton Ease wasn't available then) and I love the pattern. We use them for our everyday placemats and wash and dry them with no shrinkage or color fading. I doubled the yarn for the first few then decided using a single strand resulted in a placemat that was just as durable and well made as the double strand ones. I love Cotton Ease and Cotton Plus yarns, they are so easy to work with and provide a nice soft finish for my projects.
