Knit Placemats and Crochet Napkin Rings

Lion Brand® Lion® Cotton - Cotton-Ease®

GAUGE:

16 stitches + 30 rows = 4 in. [10 cm] in Garter stitch (knit every row). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

SOLID PLACEMAT
Cast on 60 stitches with desired color.
Work even in Garter stitch (knit every row) until piece measures 11 in. [28 cm] from beginning.
Bind off.

STRIPED PLACEMAT
Work as for Solid Placemat, working 1 row of each color in the following stripe sequence: *A, B, C, D, E, repeat from * until piece measures 11 in. [28 cm] from beginning.

Knit Placemats and Crochet Napkin Rings Reviewed by Jill Fuhrman on 2008-06-27 *****
I made these placemats several years ago using Cotton Plus (Cotton Ease wasn't available then) and I love the pattern. We use them for our everyday placemats and wash and dry them with no shrinkage or color fading. I doubled the yarn for the first few then decided using a single strand resulted in a placemat that was just as durable and well made as the double strand ones. I love Cotton Ease and Cotton Plus yarns, they are so easy to work with and provide a nice soft finish for my projects.
