Grand Granny Square Afghan

GAUGE:

9 dc + 6 rnds = 4 in. (10 cm) in pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

AFGHAN
With D, ch 4; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: With D, ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), 2 dc in ring, ch 1, (3 dc in ring, ch 1) 3 times; join with sl st in top of beg ch. Fasten off.
Rnd 2: Join A with sl st in any ch-1 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in same ch-1 sp (corner made), *(3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next ch-1 sp (corner made); rep from * 2 more times; join with sl st in top of beg ch.
Rnd 3: With A, sl st to first ch-1 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in same ch-1 sp, *3 dc in sp between next 2 dc-groups, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next corner ch-1 sp; rep from * 2 more times, 3 dc in sp between next 2 dc-groups; join with sl st in top of beg ch.
Rnd 4: With A, sl st to first ch-1 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in same ch-1 sp, *(3 dc in sp between next 2 dc-groups) twice, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next corner ch-1 sp; rep from * 2 more times, (3 dc in sp between next 2 dc-groups) twice; join with sl st in top of beg ch. Fasten off.
Rnd 5: Join B with sl st in any ch-1 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in same ch-1 sp, *(3 dc in sp between next 2 dc-groups) across to next corner ch-1 sp, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next corner ch-1 sp; rep from * 2 more times, (3 dc in sp between next 2 dc-groups) across to beg ch; join with sl st in top of beg ch. Fasten off.
Rnd 6: With C, rep Rnd 5. Fasten off.
Rnd 7: With D, rep Rnd 5. Fasten off.
Rnd 8: With A, rep Rnd 5. Do not fasten off.
Rnds 9 and 10: With A, sl st to first ch-1 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in same ch-1 sp, *(3 dc in sp between next 2 dc-groups) across to next corner ch-1 sp (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next corner ch-1 sp; rep from * 2 more times, (3 dc in sp between next 2 dc-groups) across to beg ch; join with sl st in top of beg ch. Fasten off.
Rnds 11-37: Rep Rnds 5-10 four times, then Rep Rnds 5-7 once more. Fasten off.

FINISHING

VERY easy for a beginner like me! I made this in baby colors and added a shell edging to it. The new mom just loved it!
