With A, cast on 3 sts. Work in k1, p1 Rib until piece measures 8 in. [20.5 cm] from beginning,
end with a WS row.
Row 1 (RS): K1, (k1, p1, k1) into next st, k1 – 5 sts.
Row 2: P1, k1, p1, k1, p1.
Row 3: K1, p1, (k1, p1, k1) into next st, p1, k1 – 7 sts.
Row 4: P1, k1, p3, k1, p1.
Row 5: K1, p1, k1, (k1, p1, k1) into next st, k1, p1, k1 – 9 sts.
Row 6: P1, k1, p5, k1, p1.
Row 7: K1, p1, k2, (k1, p1, k1) into next st, k2, p1, k1 – 11 sts.
Row 8: P1, k1, p7, k1, p1.
Continue as established, increasing 2 sts in center st of each RS row until there are 23 sts, end
with a WS row. Sl sts to a holder.
Make a second Earflap the same, but do not sl to a holder.
Join for Cap
With A, cast on 6 (8, 10, 11) sts, turn and k across cast on sts, k23 earflap sts, cast on 19
(19, 23, 25) sts, k23 earflap sts from holder, cast on 6 (8, 10, 11) sts – 77 (81, 89, 93) sts.
Work even in St st until piece measures 5 (5½, 6, 6½) in. [12.5 (14, 15, 16.5) cm], above joining
row, end with a RS row.
Next Row: Purl, decrease 5 (1, 1, 5) sts evenly across row – 72 (80, 88, 88) sts.
Shape Crown
Row 1 (RS): *K6, k2tog; rep from * across row – 63 (70, 77, 77)
sts.
Row 2 and WS rows: Purl.
Row 3: *K5, k2tog; rep from * across row – 54 (60, 66, 66) sts.
Row 5: *K4, k2tog; rep from * across row – 45 (50, 55, 55) sts.
Row 7: *K3, k2tog; rep from * across row – 36 (40, 44, 44) sts.
Row 9: *K2, k2tog; rep from * across row – 27 (30, 33, 33) sts.
Row 11: *K1, k2tog; rep from * across row – 18 (20, 22, 22) sts.
Row 13: K2tog across – 9 (10, 11, 11) sts.
Row 15: K2tog across, end k1 (0, 1, 1) – 5 (5, 6, 6) sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a 12 in. [30.5 cm] tail. Thread tail through remaining sts and pull tightly
together to secure.
FINISHING
Sew seam. With a doubled strand of B, work Blanket st around edge of Cap. Weave in ends |
