GAUGE:

12 dc + 6.5 rows = 5 in. [12.75 cm]. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Cardigan Reviewed by ERCzaplewski on 2011-07-25 *****
I made this sweater as a 4-H project for Waukesha county fair. Overall it went very well, and the pattern was very easy to follow. I opted out of using roving yarn and a size 10.5 k crochet hook and got the correct gauge by using a size 15 n with wool ease worsted weight yarn. I used forest green heather. It looks great!
It was a fun first project. You don't have to be an expert at reading patterns to make this cardigan. Hope you try it!
Have fun.
