in. [3 cm], end with a WS row. Change to larger needles and continue in Seed st, and at the
same time, inc 1 st at beg and end of every 8th row 0 (2, 5) times, then every 10th row 4 (3,
1) time(s) - 44 (48, 52) sts. Work even until piece measures 8 (8½, 9) in. [20.5 (21.5, 23)
cm]. Bind off.

Finishing
Sew shoulder seams. Sew back seam from center neck to crotch and then from crotch to beg of
button placket shaping. Sew inner leg seams. Sew Sleeves to Body. Sew Sleeve seams.
Neckband
From RS with smaller needles, pick up and k 62 (66, 74) sts evenly spaced around neck edge. Work
in k1, p1 Rib for 4 rows.
Buttonband
From RS with smaller needles, pick up and k 54 (62, 70) sts evenly spaced along Right Front (for
boy) or Left Front (for girl). Work in k1, p1 Rib for 4 rows.
Place markers on buttonband for buttons with the first button½ in. [1.5 cm] below top edge and 4
more buttons evenly spaced along band.
Buttonhole Band
From RS with smaller needles, pick up and k 54 (62, 70) sts evenly spaced along Left Front (for
boy) or Right Front (for girl). Work in k1, p1 Rib for 1 row.
Next Row (buttonhole row): Continue in rib, working a (k2tog, yarn over) buttonhole to
correspond placement of each marker on buttonband. Work 2 more rows of k1, p1 Rib. Bind off in rib.
Overlap buttonhole band over button band and stitch in place at bottom of placket. Sew buttons in
place on button band. Weave in ends.
HAT
With smaller needles, cast on 74 (82) sts. Work in k1, p1 Rib for 5 rows. Change to larger
needles and continue in Seed st until piece measures 3½ (4) in. [9 (10) cm] from beg, end with a WS
row.
Shape Crown
Row 1: K1, *p2tog, work 14 (16) sts in Seed st, k2tog; rep from * to last st, p1 - 66 (74) sts.
Rows 2-4: Work even in Seed st.
Row 5: P1, *k2tog, work 12 (14) sts in Seed st, p2tog; rep from * to last st, k1 - 58 (66)
sts.
Rows 6-8: Work even in Seed st.
Row 9: K1, *p2tog, work 10 (12) sts in Seed st, k2tog; rep from * to last st, p1 - 50 (58)
sts.
Rows 10-12: Work even in Seed st.
Row 13: P1, *k2tog, work 8 (10) sts in Seed st, p2tog; rep from * to last st, k1 - 42 (50)
sts.
Rows 14-16: Work even in Seed st.
Continue working in established pattern, dec 8 sts every 4th row until 10 sts rem. Cut yarn and
draw tail through rem sts. Pull tightly to secure. Sew center back seam.
FINISHING
Tassel
Wrap yarn around a 4 in. [10 cm] piece of cardboard. Cut a 20 in. [50.75 cm] length of yarn and
thread into large-eyed blunt needle. Insert needle under all yarn strands at one end of cardboard.
Pull tightly and knot securely. Cut yarn loops at opposite end of cardboard. Wrap a 1 yd [1 m]
length of yarn tightly around tassel about¾ in. [2 cm] below top to form Tassel neck. Knot
securely; thread ends onto needle and weave ends to center of Tassel. Trim Tassel ends evenly. Sew
Tassel to top of Hat. |
