Felted Tweety Birds

Lion Brand® Lion® Wool

GAUGE:

14 sc + 16 rows = 4 in. [10 cm] before felting. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

NOTES:

  • Birds are worked in rounds beginning at the top of the Head. Do not join rounds. Place a marker for beginning of round and move up as each round is completed.
  • Wings and Tails are worked separately.
  • To change color, work last st of old color until 2 loops remain on hook, yarn over with new color, draw yarn through 2 loops on hook.

Sew eyes to either side of Head. From felt, cut a quarter circle with a 5/8 in. [1.5 cm] radius for beak. Roll beak into overlapping cone, sew cone seam, then sew beak to Head.
