GAUGE:

1 Motif = 4 in. [10 cm] square. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

First Motif
Ch 6, sl st in beg ch to form ring.
Rnd 1: (Ch 5, sc in ring) 8 times, sl st in first ch of beg ch-5 – 8 lps.
Rnd 2: [Ch 9, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next lp, ch 5, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next lp] 4 times, sl st in beg ch of beg ch-9 – 4 ch-9 lps and 4 ch-5 lps.
Fasten off.

Second Motif
Rnd 1: Work as for First Motif.
Rnd 2: Join to First Motif as follows: Ch 4, sl st in 5th ch of ch-9 of First Motif, ch 4, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch-5 lp of Second Motif, ch 2, sl st in 3rd ch of corresponding ch-5 lp of First Motif, ch 2, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch-5 lp of Second Motif, ch 4, sl st in 5th ch of corresponding ch-9 lp of First Motif, ch 4, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch-5 lp of Second Motif – one side joined, complete Second Motif as for First Motif.

Third Motif
Work as for Second Motif, joining bottom of Third Motif to Top of First Motif.

Fourth Motif
Work as for Second Motif, joining side of Fourth Motif to side of Third Motif, and bottom of Fourth Motif to top of Second Motif. Continue to make and join Motifs as established until Scarf measures 120 in. [304.5 cm] long. Fasten off.
