GAUGE:

16 sc + 18 rows = 4 in. [10 cm]. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

  • Chain stitch (embroidery) Bring threaded needle from WS to RS through crocheted piece. * Insert needle back into where it last came out, do not pull tight, and form a small loop on RS. Bring needle back through to RS of piece and through small loop Repeat from * until chain is desired length.
  • French Knot Thread needle and bring from WS to RS through crocheted piece. Wrap yarn around needle 3 times, insert needle back into crocheted piece close to where it emerged. Tighten knot.
  • sc2tog (sc dec) Insert hook into stitch and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next stitch and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook.
