GAUGE:

Motif = 10 in. [25.5 cm] diameter. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

tr5tog [(yarn over) twice, insert hook in next st and draw up a loop, (yarn over and draw through 2 loops) twice] 5 times, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook.
tr4tog [(yarn over) twice, insert hook in next st and draw up a loop, (yarn over and draw through 2 loops) twice] 4 times, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook.

MOTIF VIII
Ch 8, sl st in beg ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 9 (counts as tr and ch 5), (tr, ch 5) 7 times, join with sl st in 4th ch of beg ch-9 – 8 ch-5 sp.
Rnd 2: Sl st in next ch-5 sp, ch 4 (counts as tr), 6 tr in same ch-5 sp, (7 tr in each of next 7 ch-5 sp) around, join with sl st in top of beg ch – 56 tr.
Rnd 3: Ch 4, tr in next 6 tr, ch 5, (tr in each of next 7 tr, ch 5) around, join with sl st in top of beg ch.
Rnd 4: Sl st in next tr, ch 4, tr4tog, (ch 6, sc into next ch-5 sp, ch 6, skip 1 tr, tr5tog, ch 6, skip 1 tr, sc into next ch-5 sp) 7 times, ch 3, dc in top of beg cluster.
Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc in same ch-sp, (ch 8, sc into next ch-6 sp) 15 times, ch 4, tr in beg sc.
Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc in same ch-sp, ch 9, (sc in next ch-8 sp, ch 9) 15 times, sl st in beg sc. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Weave in ends.
