Felted Tote

Lion Brand® Lion® Wool

GAUGE:

16 sts + 20 rows = 4 in. [10 cm] in St st (k on RS, p on WS) before felting. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

TOTE
With A, cast on 86 sts.
Rows 1-5: With A, work in St st.
Rows 6-10: With B, work in St st.
Repeat Rows 1-10 21 more times, Rows 1-5 once. Bind off.

HANDLES
With A, cast on 7 sts. Work in St st until piece measures 35 in. [89 cm]. Bind off. Repeat for second Handle.

FINISHING
Fold Tote in half and sew side seams. Fold up corners and sew in place. Sew Handles to Tote 5 in. [12.75 cm] from sides and 3 in. [7.5 cm] below top edge. Weave in ends.

FELTING
Wash by machine on a hot wash/cold rinse cycle with detergent and several pieces of clothing to agitate. To felt additionally, dry by machine on a regular setting until almost dry. Remove from dryer and pull into shape. Knot straps to desired length.

Felted Tote on 2011-07-03 *****
I love this bag! It took two times through my front load washer to get it to felt, but it came out beautifully. I agree with another reviewer that directions for the bottom corners would be good, but I did figure it out, with a bit of trial & error. A boring knitting project, but easy to do in front of the TV. I lined it to give it a more finished look.
