GAUGE:

16 stitches across and 32 rows down should measure 4 in. [10 cm] in garter stitch (knit every stitch on every row). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

FRONTS (make 2)
Cast on 21 stitches.
Work in garter stitch until piece measures 10 in. [25.5 cm] (same as back to shoulder).
Bind off all stitches.

SLEEVES (make 2)
Cast on 32 stitches.
Work in garter stitch until piece measures 5 in. [25.5 cm]. Bind off all stitches.

FINISHING
Matching fronts to back, sew each shoulder seam from armhole edge towards center for 2 1/2 in. [6.5 cm], leaving remaining edges open.

Place pins 4 in. [10 cm] down from shoulder on front and back. Center sleeve between pins and sew to body. Sew side seams and underarm seams. Weave in all ends.

At neck edge, fold corner down 2 in. [5 cm] and tack in place. Repeat on the other side. Cut ribbon length in half. Sew one half to each side of sweater front neck.
