GAUGE:

13 sts + 20 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

BLANKIE
Cast on 56 sts.
Border
Rows 1-8: Knit.
Beg Pattern
Rows 9-16: K12, (p8, k8) twice, p8, k4.
Rows 17-24: K4, (p8, k8) twice, p8, k12.
Rep Rows 9-24 five more times.
Border
Last 8 Rows: Knit.
Bind off.

FINISHING
Weave in ends.

In the middle of this but making it quite big - at least full cot size - in cream for a special niece's bub-to-be. No need to count stitches or rows once pattern is set. It is looking lovely.
