Make-a-Statement Hat

Lion Brand® Wool-Ease® Thick & Quick®

GAUGE:

9 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in Stockinette st (k on RS, p on WS). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

kfb (knit into front and back) Knit next st without removing it from left needle, then k through back of same st -1 st increased.

NOTES:

Hat and lining are made in one piece, then lining is folded to inside of Hat.

Row 1 (RS): Kfb in each st across - 12 sts.
Rows 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12: Purl.
Row 3: *K1, kfb; rep from * across row - 18 sts.

Next Row (RS): K the knit sts, p the purl sts.
Rep last 2 rows until piece measures about 18 in. (46 cm) from beginning, end with a WS row.
Note: End with a WS row means the last row you work should be a WS row, the next row you will work is a RS row.

Row 3: *K5, k2tog, rep from * across row - 36 sts.

Make-a-Statement Hat Reviewed by marylou on 2011-11-26 ****
a great warm double thick hat BUT you must make it MUCH longer between beginning/ending in order to fold the brim as it is folded in the picture otherwise, you have a cloche type hat, still attractibe without the brim
