PONCHO
With A, ch 40 (48, 48) loosely, to measure about 20 (24, 24) in. [51 (61, 61) cm] when slightly
stretched. Being careful not to twist, sl st in beg ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1 (Eyelets): With A, ch 3, sk same ch, sk next ch, * V-st in next ch, sk
next ch, rep from * 18 (22, 22) more times, dc in same ch as beg, ch 1, sl st in top of beg ch,
fasten off A – 20 (24, 24) V-sts.
Rnd 2: Following color sequence, join next color with sl st in ch-1 sp just made, ch 3, 2 dc in
same sp, 3 dc in ch-1 sp of next 19 (23, 23) V-st, sl st in top of beg ch, fasten off – 20 (24,
24) shells.
Rnd 3: Join next color with sl st in sp between beg 2 shells, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, * 3 dc in
each of next 4 (5, 5) sp between shells, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next sp for corner, rep from * 3 more
times, except omit last corner, instead make 3 dc in same sp as beg to complete back point, ch 1, sl
st in top of beg ch, fasten off – 24 (28, 28) shells. Mark ch-1 sp at center of 1st and 3rd
corners for sides, move markers up each round.
Rnd 4: Join next color with sl st in last ch-1 sp of previous rnd, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, (3 dc
in each of next 11 (12, 12) sp between shells, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next sp at front point, 3 dc in
each of next 11 (12, 12) sp, 3 dc in same sp as beg to complete back point, ch 1, sl st in top of
beg ch, fasten off – 2 shells added, 26 (30, 30) shells.
Rnd 5: Join next color with sl st in last ch-1 sp of previous rnd, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, 3
dc in each sp between shells to front point, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next sp for front point, 3 dc in
each sp to end, 3 dc in same sp as beg, ch 1, sl st in top of beg ch, fasten off – 2 shells added,
28 (32, 32) shells.
Rnd 6: Join next color with sl st in last ch-1 sp of Rnd 5, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, 3 dc in each
sp between shells to side marker, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next sp for side inc, 3 dc in each sp to
front point, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next sp for front point, 3 dc in each sp to side marker, (3 dc,
ch 1, 3 dc) in next sp for side inc, 3 dc in each sp to end, 3 dc in same sp as beg, ch 1, sl st in
top of beg ch, fasten off – 4 shells added, 32 (36, 36) shells.
Small Size ONLY (Rnds 7-15): Work (Rnd 5, Rnd 5, Rnd 6) 2 times, then work (Rnd
5) 3 more times – 54 shells.
Medium Size ONLY (Rnds 7-18): Work (Rnd 5, Rnd 5, Rnd 6) 3 times, then work (Rnd
5) 3 more times – 66 shells.
Large Size ONLY (Rnds 7-21): Work (Rnd 5, Rnd 5, Rnd 6) 4 times, then work (Rnd
5) 3 more times – 74 shells.
FINISHING
Neck Edging
From RS, join A with sl st in any ch-1 sp of foundation chain, (ch 2, hdc in same sp, sl st in
next ch-1 sp) 20 (24, 24) times, end with sl st in beg ch-1 sp, fasten off.
Fringe
Cut 324 (396, 444) strands of B each about 13 in. [33 cm] long. For each fringe, hold 6 strands
of yarn together and fold in half. Use crochet hook to draw fold through sp between shells in last
rnd of Poncho, forming a loop. Pull ends of fringe through this loop. Pull to tighten. Trim fringe
evenly.
DRAWSTRING
With color of your choice, ch 108 (120,132) to measure about 32 (36, 40) in. [81 (91.5, 101.5)
cm] long. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch to end, fasten off. With RS of Poncho facing, beg
just above front point, weave drawstring in and out of sps of Rnd 1, going behind one V, and then in
front of the next. Weave in ends. |
