Jean's Felted Coin Purse

Lion Brand® Landscapes®(old)

12 sts = 4 in. [10 cm] in St st (k on RS, p on WS), before felting. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

Cast on 16 sts.
Work in St st until piece measures 9 in. [23 cm] from beginning, end with a WS row.
Shape flap
Next row:
K2 tog, k to last 2 sts, k2 tog.
Next row: P2 tog, p to last 2 sts, p2 tog.
Repeat last 2 rows until 4 sts remain. Bind off. Weave in ends.

Fold Purse into thirds, sew side seams. With sewing needle and thread, sew button to center front. Push button through flap between sts to create buttonhole.

Wash by machine on a hot wash/cold rinse cycle with detergent and several pieces of clothing to agitate. To felt additionally, dry by machine on a regular setting until almost dry. Remove from dryer and pull into shape.

I made this in a day. It is a quick beginner project. I followed the felting instructions. I am not sure if it felted correctly but I like the end result even though you can still see my stitching mistakes. Overall this is a quick and fun project that all beginners should do. The next one I do, i will probably use a snap instead of button for flap.
