GAUGE:
16 sts + 22 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES:
1. Top is worked in the rnd, in one piece, beginning at the lower edge.
2. Yarns A and B are alternated on every rnd throughout to create a shaded effect.
BODY
With longer circular needle and A, cast on 88 (96, 104, 112, 120) sts. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts.
With A, knit 1 rnd.
With B, knit 1 rnd.
Continue working in St st (k every rnd), alternating yarns A and B, until piece measures about 5 (6, 7, 7 1/2, 8) in. (12.5 (15, 18, 19, 20.5) cm) from beg.
Shape Armholes
Note: Continue to alternate yarns A and B. Rnd 1: Bind off 2 sts, k42 (46, 50, 54, 58) sts, bind off 2 sts, k42 (46, 50, 54, 58) sts. Rnd 2: Cast on 14 (18, 22, 26, 30) sts (over bound-off sts) for sleeve, k42 (46, 50, 54, 58) sts, cast on 14 (18, 22, 26, 30) sts for second sleeve, k42 (46, 50, 54, 58) sts - 112 (128, 144, 160, 176) sts at the end of this rnd.
Work even in St st until piece measures about 1 (2, 3, 3 1/2, 4) in. (2.5 (5, 7.5, 9, 10) cm) from sleeve cast-on.
Shape Yoke
Note: When sts have been sufficiently decreased, change to shorter circular needle. Next (Dec) Rnd: *K2, k2tog; rep from *around - 84 (96, 108, 120, 132) sts at the end of this rnd.
Work even in St st for 1 1/2 in. (4 cm). Next (Dec) Rnd: *K2, k2tog; rep from *around - 63 (72, 81, 90, 99) sts at the end of this rnd.

I made a modified version of this for my 10 year old. I extended the length so it could be worn on its own over a pair of tights and added a large turtleneck.
