GAUGE:
13 sts and 10 rows = 4 in. [10 cm] in Garter st (k every row) with larger needles and 2 strands of A and 1 strand of B held together. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
Pattern A Work in Garter st (k every row) with larger needles and 2 strands of A and 1 strand of B held
together.
Pattern B
Work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) with smaller needles and 2 strands of C held together.
COAT
BACK With larger needles and 2 strands of A and 1 strand of B held tog, cast on 62 (66, 72, 78,
84, 90, 98) sts. Work 4 rows in Pattern A. Change to smaller needles and 2 strands of C and
work 14 rows in Pattern B. Continue in pattern sequence as follows: 4 rows Pattern A, 12 rows
Pattern B, (4 rows Pattern A, 10 rows Pattern B) twice, 4 rows Pattern A, 8 rows Pattern B.
When pattern sequence has been completed, rep (4 rows Pattern A, 6 rows Pattern B) to end. AT

Shape Armholes
Bind off 3 (3, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st at each edge every
RS row 1 (2, 3, 4, 4, 5, 6) times - 54 (56, 60, 62, 66, 68, 72) sts. Work even in pattern as
established until piece measures 20 (21, 21x, 22, 23, 24 24) in. [51 (53.5, 56, 56, 58.5, 61,
61) cm] from beg. Bind off.
LEFT FRONT
With larger needles and 2 strands of A and 1 strand of B held tog, cast on 30 (32, 36, 40,
42, 46, 50) sts. Work in pattern sequence as for Back until piece measures 10 (11, 11, 11, 12,
12, 12) in. [25.5 (28, 28, 28, 30.5, 30.5, 30.5) cm] from beg, end with a WS row.
Shape Collar
Next Row (RS): Work to last 9 sts, place marker, inc 1, work in Rev St st (p on RS, k on
WS) to last 4 sts, work last 4 sts in Garter st. Next Row: Work as established.
Next Row: Work to marker, slip marker, inc 1, work in Rev St st to last 4 sts, work last 4
sts in Garter st.
Rep last 2 rows 16 (16, 16, 18, 20, 20, 20) more times and, AT THE SAME TIME, when piece

Shape Armhole
Bind off 3 (3, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) sts at beg of next RS row, then dec 1 st at beg of every RS

Shape Neck
Next Row: Work to 2 sts before marker, k2tog, work to end of row. Work 5 rows even as
established. Rep last 6 rows 2 more times.
Work as established until piece measures same as Back, end with a WS row. Bind off all sts up to
marker. K across rem 27 (27, 27, 29, 31, 31, 31) sts.
Short Row Collar Shaping
Working with 2 strands of A and 1 strand of B only, shape collar as follows: Row 1: K 15, turn. Row 2: Knit. Row 3: Knit to end of row. Row 4: Purl.
Rep Rows 1-4 until collar measures 3 in. [7.75 cm] from bound off sts. Bind off remaining sts.
RIGHT FRONT
Work as for Left Front, reversing shaping.
SLEEVES
With larger needles and 2 strands of A and 1 strand of B held tog, cast on 48 (48, 52, 52,
54, 56, 58) sts. * Work 4 rows in Pattern A. Change to smaller needles and 2 strands of C. Work
10 rows in Pattern B. Change to larger needles and 2 strands of A and 1 strand of B. Rep from *

Shape Cap
Bind off 3 (3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at each end of every RS

FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams. Sew in Sleeves. Sew side and Sleeve seams. Sew back collar seam. Sew collar to
neck edge.

I made this jacket and it was a fun project. It is a very heavy jacket so it is really warm. This was the first pattern that I downloaded and I was proud that I managed that. Totally simple.
