Ultimate Sweater

Lion Brand® Lion® Cashmere Blend

GAUGE:

16 sts + 22 rnds = 4 in. [10 cm] in St st (k every rnd) on larger circular needle. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting horizontal thread lying between needles and placing it onto left needle Knit this new stitch through the back loop to twist it.

NOTES:

Sleeves are worked back and forth on circular needle. Sweater body is worked in the round to underarm, then Sleeves are joined to work yoke.

SLEEVES
With larger circular needle, cast on 46 (46, 50, 50, 54) sts.
Work in St st in rows, back and forth on circular needle, until piece measures 1½ in. [4 cm] (allow edge to roll slightly before measuring). Continue in St st, inc 1 st each side every 6 rows 0 (0, 0, 5, 4) times, every 8 rows 0 (4, 4, 3, 4) times, every 10 rows 0 (2, 2, 0, 0) times, then every 12 rows 4 (0, 0, 0, 0) times -- 54 (58, 62, 66, 70) sts. Work even until piece measures 12½ (13, 13, 13½, 14) in. [32 (33, 33, 34.5, 35.5) cm] from beg, end with a WS row

Bind off 7 (7, 7, 8, 9) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Place remaining 40 (44, 48, 50, 52) sts on a holder.

BODY
With larger circular needle, cast on 124 (140, 156, 172, 188) sts. Place marker and join, being careful not to twist sts. Place second marker after 62 (70, 78, 86, 94) sts. Work in St st in the rnd (k every rnd) until piece measures 3 (3½, 4, 4½, 4½) in. [7.5 (9, 10, 11.5, 11.5) cm] (allow edge to roll slightly before measuring).

Next Rnd (Inc Rnd): K1, m1, k to 1 st before marker, m1, k1, slip marker, k1, m1, k to 1 st before end of rnd, m1, k1. Continue in St st working Inc Rnd every 12 rnds twice more -- 136 (152, 168, 184, 200) sts. Work even until piece measures 14 (14½ , 15, 15½, 15½) in. [35.5 (37, 38, 39.5, 39.5) cm] from beg.

Shape Armholes
[K to 6 (6, 6, 7, 8) sts before marker, bind off 12 (12, 12, 14, 16) sts] twice, k to end of rnd -- 112 (128, 144, 156, 168) sts.

Join Sleeves

Ultimate Sweater Reviewed by Eileen Skocdopole on 2011-06-02 ****
I bought the cashmere blend yarn (now discontinued) to knit this up. I followed the other reviews suggestions, and used a much smaller gauge needle for the neck part of this sweater. I love the sweater! I love the pattern too. It was fairly simple. I added ribbing on the cuffs and hem, also.
The yarn, on the other hand, I don't like. It immediately pilled at the arms, and anywhere else it brushed up against anything. So basically an unwearable sweater that took me a looong time to knit.
