| Absolutely wonderful project! Instructions were easy to follow and the finished product turned out so cute...a perfect gift for my godson's 1st birthday. After searching 4 stores for animal eyes I ended up using smooth glossy black buttons that attach with a back loop instead of 4 holes. The loop poked right through the crochet so they were flush once sewn on. I probably oversewed these but since it's for a 1 year old I didn't want it to be a choking hazard. I used a heavy worsted weight in light tan for the main color, Lion Brand Quick & Cozy in chocolate brown for the mane, and Lion Brand Fun in red for the bridle & reins. Like another reviewer I used split ring keychain rings for the bridle and rein attachments. I will be staining and adding a durable poly coat to the stick since I found a nice poplar wood dowel. I think between that and the buttons it will have a nice old-fashioned look. I would recommend sanding a slight curve to the bottom of the stick so it doesn't have as hard of edges. It went together pretty fast (I would estimate about 8 hours)and the most tedious part was adding the fringe for the bangs and mane.
