Note: The size 15 needles are used only for ribbing—on the Sleeve cuffs and on the collar. You can use straight size 15 needles for the cuffs, but you’ll need the long circular needle for the collar (and you can use it—going back and forth rather than in the round--for the cuffs).

Fisherman Shrug

Lion Brand® Wool-Ease® Thick & Quick®

9 sts and 14 rows = 4 in (10 cm) in St stitch pattern (knit RS rows, purl WS rows) using size 10½ needles.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

In this pattern, the larger size needles are used for the cuff and collar ribbing. The smaller size needles are used for the body parts knit in stockinette stitch.

I made this for my sister-in-law, who is super petite. It was perfect for her, and she got a lot of compliments! planning to make another for my niece, who is also tiny.
