Shimmery Elegance Bolero

GAUGE: 12 sts + 18 rows = 4" [10cm] in St st (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION: | M1 (make 1 st) An increase worked by lifting horizontal thread lying
between needles and placing it onto left needle. Knit this new st through the
back loop.
PATTERN STITCHES
CUFF PATTERN STITCH (worked in rows)
Row 1 *(K2tog) twice, yo, (k1, yo) 3 times, (k2tog) twice; rep from * to
end.
Row 2 Purl.
Rep rows 1-2 for Cuff Pattern.
K2, P2 RIB (worked in rnds)
Rnd 1: *K2, p2; rep from * to end.
Rep rnd 1 for K2, P2 Rib.
SEED STITCH (worked in rnds)
Rnd 1 *K1, p1; rep from * around.
Rnd 2 P the knit sts and k the purl sts.
Rep rnd 2 for Seed Stitch. |

BOLERO
With straight needles and A, cast on 22 sts. Work in Cuff Pattern Stitch
until piece measures 3" [7.75 cm] from beg, end with a WS row.
Inc row K1, *M1, k1; rep from * to end – 43 sts. Purl 1 row.
Next row K1, M1, k to last st, M1, k1 – 45 sts. Work even in St st until
piece measures 14" [35.5 cm] from beg, end with a WS row.
Inc Row K9, *M1, k9; repeat from * to end – 49 sts.
Work even until piece measures 44" [111.5 cm] from beg, end with a WS
row.
Dec Row K9, *k2tog, k8; repeat from * to end – 45 sts.
Work even until piece measures 54½" [138.5 cm] from beg, end with a WS
row.
Dec Row K1, k2tog, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1 – 43 sts. Purl 1 row.
Next Row K1, (k2tog) to end of row – 22 sts.
Work in Cuff Pattern for 3 inches [7.5 cm]. Bind off.
 FINISHING
Beg at cuff edge, sew 19" [48 cm] sleeve seams leaving 20" [51 cm]
unsewn between sleeves for bolero back.
Front and Neck Band
From RS, with A and circular needle, beg at underarm seam, pick up and k 130
sts evenly around edge of bolero. Place marker and join.
Inc row (K1, m1) twice, (k2, m1) to last 2 st, k1, m1, k1 – 196 sts.
Work in rnds of K2, P2 for 3" [7.5 cm]. Change to B and work in Seed st
for 3" [7.5 cm]. Change to A and work in Seed st for 1" [2.5cm]. Bind
off. Weave in ends. |

| I had problems with the cuffs also. I would highly recommend doing a rib to match. They looked pretty, but were almost too narrow to get a hand through. Also, I made this for a tall but thin woman, and it mostly covered her shoulders, it didn't cover as much of the front as it does on the model. Otherwise, it was very nice looking, and the pattern is understandable if you think it through.
