10 sts = about 4 in. [10 cm] in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd) with 1 strand each of A and B held tog). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

With 1 strand each of A and B held tog, cast on 40 sts. Divide sts onto 4 needles and join, being careful not to twist. Place marker for beg of rnd. Work in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd) until piece measures about 7 in. (18 cm) from beg.
Shape Crown

Knit Chemo Cap Reviewed by Etheline Hill on 2012-12-14 *****
This is a very easy hat to make. I make the opening larger by using both needles held together to cast on stitches and 2 strands of Fun Fur. I also knit the scarf by casting on 10 stitches for girl's size and 20 for the ladies.
