GAUGE:

4 dc = 4 in [10 cm] with 1 strand each of A and B and 2 strands of C held tog. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Beg at lower edge, using 1 strand each of A and B and 2 strands of C held tog, ch 40; join with sl st to form ring, being careful not to twist ch.
Rnd 1 Ch 3, dc in each ch around; join with sl st in top of beg ch – 40 dc.
Rnd 2 Ch 3, dc in each dc around; join with sl st in top of beg ch.
Rnd 3 Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, dc2tog, [dc in next 3 dc, dc2tog] around; join with sl st in top of beg ch – 32 dc.
