GAUGE: First 2 rnds of Centerpiece = 3½" [9 cm] diameter. Centerpiece = 6" [15 cm] diameter. 12 dc + 4 rows = 4" [10 cm] with A. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

CENTERPIECE – Make 2
With A, ch 5; join with slip st to form ring.
Rnd 1 Work 10 sc in ring; join with slip st in back loop of first sc – 10
sc.
Rnd 2 Working in back loops only, ch 3, dc in first sc, *3 dc in next sc, 2
dc in next sc; repeat from * around, ending with 3 dc in last sc; join with slip
st in top of beg ch – 25 sts.
Rnd 3 Working in back loops only, ch 3, dc in first st, 2 dc in each dc
around; join with slip st in top of beg ch – 50 sts. Fasten off.
SIDE
Place 2 Centerpieces tog so that right sides face out. Designate Front and
Back. To make sides of Bag, work in rows as follows, joining at end of rows to
front loops of sts on Back and back loops of sts on Front.
Foundation Ch Join A in back loop of any st in Rnd 3 of Front, ch 28, slip
st in front loop of any st in Rnd 3 of Back.
Row 1 (RS) Ch 1, sc in first 2 ch of Foundation Ch, hdc in each of next 2 ch,
dc in each of next 20 ch, hdc in each of next 2 ch, sc in each of last 2 ch,
slip st in back loop of same st as joining in Rnd 3 of Front, slip st in back
loop of next dc; turn.
Row 2 (WS) Working in back loops of sts in last row of Side, ch 1, sc in
first 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, dc in next 20 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in last
2 sts, slip st in front loop of next dc of Back, slip st in front loop of next
dc; turn.
Row 3 Working in back loops of sts in last row of Side, ch 1, sc in first 2
sts, hdc in next 2 sts, dc in next 20 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in last 2 sts,
slip st in back loop of next dc of Front, slip st in back loop of next dc; turn.
Rows 4-31 Repeat Rows 2-3 (14 times). Fasten off.
FIRST STRAP Row 1 (RS)
With RS facing, skip first 3 dc on top edge of Front Centerpiece, join A in
next dc, ch 3, dc in next dc, hdc in each of next 3 dc, sc in each of next 2 dc,
hdc in each of next 3 dc, dc in each of next 2 dc; turn, leaving remaining sts
unworked – 12 sts.
Rows 2-4 Ch 3, dc2tog in next 2 sts, dc in each st across to last 2 sts,
dc2tog in last 2 sts; turn – 6 sts at end of Row 4.
Rows 5-6 Ch 3, dc in each dc across; turn. Fasten off.
SECOND STRAP Work as for First Strap across remaining sts on top edge of
Back Centerpiece. Fasten off, leaving a 6-inch [15 cm] tail for sewing.
FLOWER – Make 10, 5 with B and 5 with C
Leaving a tail for sewing, ch 4; join with slip st to form ring.
Rnd 1 Work 11 sc in ring; join with slip st in first sc – 11 sc. Fasten
off. Weave in end. With an 8 inches [20.5 cm] length of opposite color, work a
cross stitch in the center of each Flower.
FINISHING Working through back loops of sts, using large-eyed blunt
needle and tail, sew ends of Straps tog. Weave in ends. Arrange Flowers as
desired and tie on with tails. With 2 strands Lion Suede held tog, add stitches
below Front Centerpiece as pictured using a simple running st. Weave in ends. |
