Crochet Needful Tweed Tote

Lion Brand® Homespun®

GAUGE:

14 dc = 4" [10 cm] on larger hook.
16 dc = 4" [10 cm] on smaller hook. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

sc2tog (sc decrease) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook.

Rnd 1
Ch 1, *3 sc in corner st, sc in each of next 28 sc, 3 sc in next corner st, sc in each of next 6 row-end sts; rep from * once; join with sl st in first sc – 80 sc.
Rnd 2
Ch 1, sc into back loop of each sc around; join with sl st in first sc.
Rnds 3-5
Ch 1, sc into both loops of each sc around; join with sl st in first sc.
Rnds 6-10
Ch 3, dc in each st around; join with sl st in top of beginning ch – 80 dc.
Change to smaller hook.
Rnds 11-16
Rep Rnd 6.
Rnd 17
Ch 1, sc in same dc, sc in next 2 dc, sc2tog, *sc in next 6 dc, sc2tog; rep from * to last 3 dc, sc in last 3 dc; join with sl st in first sc – 70 sc.
Rnd 18
Ch 1, sc in each sc around; join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 19
Ch 1, working from left to right, sc in each sc around; join with sl st in first sc.

Fasten off.

POCKET
With RS facing, flatten Tote, place a marker in first and last st of center 30 front loop sc from Rnd 2 of Body.
Row 1
Join A in front loop of first marked st in Rnd 2, ch 1; working in front loops of Rnd 2 only, sc in each sc to 2nd marker; turn – 30 sc. Remove markers.
Row 2
Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc across to last sc, 2 sc in last sc; turn – 32 sc.
Row 3
Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn.
Rows 4-5
Rep Rows 2-3 – 34 sc.
Rows 6-8
Ch 3, dc in first sc, dc across to last sc, 2 dc in last sc; turn – 40 sts at end of Row 8.
Rows 9-10
Ch 3, dc in each dc across; turn.
Row 11
Ch 1, sc in each st across; turn. Fasten off A.
Row 12
With RS facing, join B in first sc, ch 1, working from left to right, sc in each sc across. Fasten off B.

BUTTON LOOP
Join B in center st in last rnd of Back, ch 20, sl st in same st. Fasten off B.

FINISHING
With large-eyed blunt needle and A, sew sides of Pocket to Front. Sew a line down center of Pocket, forming 2 compartments. With A, sew handles to inside top edges of front and back below edging. Sew button to front of Purse opposite Button Loop.
