Crochet Early Bloomer Blanket

Lion Brand« Babysoft® - Velvetspun

GAUGE:

12 sts + 16 rows = 4" [10 cm] in pattern with 2 strands of MC held tog on larger hook.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

BLANKET

With larger hook and 2 strands of MC held tog, ch 96.
Row 1 (RS) Sc in 2nd ch from hook, *ch 1, skip next ch, sc in next ch; repeat from * across; turn – 47 ch1-spaces.
Row 2 Ch 1, sc in first sc, sc in next ch1-space, *ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next ch1-space; repeat from * across to last st, sc in last sc; turn – 46 ch1-spaces.
Row 3 Ch 1, sc in first sc, *ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next ch1-space; repeat from * across to last 2 sts, ch 1, skip next sc, sc in last sc; turn – 47 ch1-spaces. Repeat Rows 2-3 until piece measures 36" [91.5 cm] from beginning, ending with Row 3. Fasten off.

EDGING With RS facing and smaller hook, join A in top right corner st.

Rnd 1 Ch 1, *(sc, ch 1, sc) in corner st, [ch 1, skip next ch1-space, sc in next sc] across to next corner, ch 1, (sc, ch 1, sc) in next corner st, ch 1, skip next row-end st, [sc in next row-end st, ch 1, skip next row-end st] across to next corner; repeat from * around; join with slip st in first sc; turn.

Rnd 2 Ch 1, *sc in first sc, [ch 1, skip next ch1-space, sc in next sc] across to next corner, (sc, ch 1, sc) in next corner ch1-space; repeat from * around. Fasten off.

FLOWER – Make 12

With larger hook and A, ch 3; join with slip st to form ring.
Rnd 1 (RS) Ch 1, work 10 sc in ring; join with slip st in first sc – 10 sc. Fasten off.
Rnd 2 With RS facing, join B in any sc, *ch 4, slip st in each of next 2 sc; repeat from * around, ending with slip st in last sc. Fasten off.

FINISHING

With sewing needle and thread, sew 3 Flowers to each corner of Blanket as pictured. With large-eyed, blunt needle and B, weave yarn in and out of the sts in Rnd 1 of Edging, around outer edge of Blanket. Knot ends to secure. With large-eyed, blunt needle and B, "write" name in script between Flowers on one edge by working large straight sts, then couching yarn strands using sewing needle and thread to shape letters and hold down yarn strands.
