GAUGE:

7 sts + 7 rnds = 4” [10 cm] in Knot-Stitch Mesh pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Downloadable Pattern: Cutie Pie Poncho to Knit Reviewed by Marie Tousignant on 2008-03-21 ***
I made a version of this poncho which my grandaughter absolutely loves using fun fur and a mohair blend (Imagine) I had on hand. However, after one row of the pattern stitch, I decided it was too time consuming, so just knit the rest of the poncho, until the last row, where I repeated the pattern row. It took more rows and isn't quite as "open" but worked up very quickly. In fact, my granddaughter loves it so much, she's asked me to make two more in different colors, one for her and one for her pre-school friend.
