I made a version of this poncho which my grandaughter absolutely loves using fun fur and a mohair blend (Imagine) I had on hand. However, after one row of the pattern stitch, I decided it was too time consuming, so just knit the rest of the poncho, until the last row,where I repeated the pattern row. It took more rows and isn't quite as "open" but worked up very quickly. In fact, my granddaughter loves it so much, she's asked me to make two more in different colors, one for her and one for her pre-school friend.
