PONCHO
With A and larger hook, loosely ch 40. Join with slip st to form ring, being careful not to twist ch.
Rnd 1 Ch 1, sc in each ch by working into the “nub” or single strand at the back of each ch; join with slip st in beg sc – 40 sc.
Rnd 2 (RS) With B and smaller hook, ch 3, dc in same sc, ch 1, *(2dcst, ch 1) in next 10 sc, mark space for corner, (2dcst, ch 1) once more in same sc.
Repeat from * 3 more times, 2dcst in same sc as beg; join with sc in top of beg ch (counts as beg corner space); drop B to back of work, pick up A,ch 1; turn – 44 ch-spaces.
Rnd 3 (WS) With A and larger hook, sc in each ch-space; turn. Keeping strands to back of work, slip st backwards into beg sc of rnd; drop A – 44 sc.
Rnd 4 (RS) With B and smaller hook, ch3,dcinsamesc,ch1,skipslipst, *(2dcst, ch 1) in each sc to corner sc, (2dcst, ch 1) twice in corner sc. Repeat from * 3 more times, ending last repeat 2dcst in same sc as beg; join with sc in top of beg ch; drop B to back of work, pick up A, ch 1; turn – 48 ch-spaces.
Rnds 5-16 Repeat Rnds 3-4 for 6 more times, increasing in pattern as established – 72 ch-spaces.
Rnd 17 (WS) With A and larger hook, sc in each ch-space; join with slip st in beg sc; turn – 72 sc.
Rnd 18 (RS) Ch 1, skip slip st, [sc in each sc to corner sc, 2 sc in corner sc] 4 times, ending last repeat 2 sc in last sc; join with slip st in beg sc. Fasten off. Weave in ends. To open up the stitch pattern and achieve finished length of 14" [35.5 cm], thoroughly dampen Poncho and spread on clean towel(s) on a carpeted floor or on a bed. Gently ease Poncho into shape, blocking to size, pinning where necessary. Allow to dry completely. |
