Lion Brand® Landscapes®(old)

10.25 sts + 16 rows = 4” (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

ssk (slip, slip, knit): Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and k them tog.

Seed Stitch (even number of sts)
Row 1 (RS): *K 1, p 1; repeat from * to end.
Row 2: *P 1, k 1; repeat from * to end.
Repeat Rows 1-2 for Seed st.

Cast on 46 (50, 54, 58, 62) sts. Work 6 rows in Seed st.
Next Row (RS): Continuing to work Seed st over first and last 3 sts, work St st over center 40 (44, 48, 52, 56) sts until piece measures 5” from beg. Change to St st, inc 1 st at beg and end of row – 48 (52, 56, 60, 64) sts. Work even until piece measures 12” from beg, ending with a WS row.
Shape Armholes: Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Next (Dec) Row (RS) K 2, ssk, work to last 4 sts, k2tog, k 2. Work 1 row even. Repeat last 2 rows 2 (2, 2, 2, 3) more times – 38 (42, 46, 50, 52) sts. Change to Seed st and work even until armholes measure 8 (8½, 9, 9½, 9½)”, ending with a WS row.
Shape Back Neck and Shoulder: Bind off 5 (6, 6, 7, 8) sts at beg of next 2 rows, 5 (6, 7, 8, 8) sts at beg of next 2 rows; AT SAME TIME, place center 16 (16, 18, 18, 18) sts on holder, then, joining 2nd ball of yarn and working both sides at once, dec 1 st from each neck edge once.

Work as for Back until armholes measure 6½ (7, 7½, 8, 8)”, ending with a WS row. Shape Neck and Shoulder Place center 8 (8, 10, 10, 10) sts on holder, then, joining 2nd ball of yarn and working both sides at once, bind off 2 sts from each neck edge twice, 1 st from each neck edge once; AT SAME TIME, when piece measures same length as Back to shoulder shaping, shape shoulder as for Back.

Cast on 22 (24, 26, 28, 28) sts. Work in Seed st for 2½”. Continue in Seed st, inc 1 st each end on next row, then work even until piece measures 5” from beg, ending with a WS row – 24 (26, 28, 30, 30) sts.
Next Row (RS): Changing to St st, inc 1 st at beg and end of row, then continue to inc 1 st each end every 12th (12th, 10th, 10th, 8th) row 4 (4, 4, 4, 5) more times – 34 (36, 38, 40, 42) sts. Work even until piece measures 19 (18½, 18, 18, 18)” from beg, ending with a WS row.
Shape Cap: Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at beg of next 18 (18, 20, 20, 20) rows, then bind off 3 (3, 3, 3, 4) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off remaining 6 (8, 8, 10, 10) sts.

Sew shoulder seams.
