GAUGE:
7.5 sts + 11.5 rows = 4” (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS) with Jiffy on larger needles.
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and k them tog.
BACK
With Jiffy and larger needles, cast on 32 (34, 38, 42, 44) sts. Knit 1 row.
Next Row (RS) Beg with a knit row, work in St st until piece measures 6” from beg, ending with a WS row. Inc 1 st at beg and end of row – 34 (36, 40, 44, 46) sts. Work even until piece measures 12” from beg, ending with a WS row. Inc 1 st at beg and end of row – 36 (38, 42, 46, 48) sts. Work even until piece measures 15” from beg, ending with a WS row.
Shape Armhole Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Next (Dec) Row (RS) K 2, ssk, work to last 4 sts, k2tog, k 2. Work 1 row even. Repeat last 2 rows 3 more times – 20 (22, 26, 30, 32) sts. Work even until armholes measure 8 (81⁄2, 81⁄2, 9, 91⁄2)”. Bind off all sts.
LEFT FRONT
With Jiffy and larger needles, cast on 16 (18, 20, 20, 22) sts. Knit 1 row.
Next Row (RS) Beg with a knit row, work in St st until piece measures 6” from beg, ending with a WS row.
Next Row (RS) Inc 1 st at beg of row (outside edge) – 17 (19, 21, 21, 23) sts. Work even until piece measures 12” from beg, ending with a WS row. Inc 1 st at beg of row – 18 (20, 22, 22, 24) sts. Work even until piece measures 13 (131⁄2, 131⁄2, 14, 141⁄2)” from beg, ending with a RS row.
Shape V-Neck and Armhole Dec 1 st at beg of row (neck edge) and continue to dec 1 st from neck edge every 4th row 2 (5, 6, 5, 6) more times, then every 6th row 2 (0, 0, 0, 0) times; AT SAME TIME, when piece measures same length as Back to armhole, bind off 4 sts at beg of next RS row, then work 1 row even. Next (Dec) Row (RS) K 2, ssk, work to end of row. Repeat dec row every RS row 3 more times. When all neck decs are completed, work even until armhole measures same as Back. Bind off remaining 5 (6, 7, 8, 9) shoulder sts.
RIGHT FRONT
Work as for Left Front, reversing shaping.
FINISHING
Sew shoulder and side seams. Armhole Trim
With circular needle, RS facing, and 1 strand of each color of Fun Fur held tog, pick up and knit 34 (36, 36, 38, 40) sts around armhole. Join and work in garter st (k 1 rnd, p 1 rnd) for 1”. Bind off all sts loosely.
Shawl Collar and Trim
With circular needle and 1 strand of each color of Fun Fur held tog, cast on 130 (134, 136, 142, 146) sts and, working flat, work 8 rows in garter st (k every row). Bind off 35
(37, 37, 39, 41) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then bind off 2 sts at beg of next 14 rows. Work 0 (0, 2, 2, 2) rows even. Bind off remaining 32 (32, 34, 36, 36) sts. Sew bound-off edge to Fronts, joining ends to bottom Fronts, center to center Back neck, and easing rest of Collar in place.
