The Artful Poncho

Lion Brand« Wool-Ease®

GAUGE:

18 sts + 24 rnds = 4” (10 cm) in St st (knit every rnd). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

M1 (make 1 st) knit rows: Insert left needle from front to back under horizontal strand between st just worked and next st on left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop.
M1 (make 1 st) purl rows: Insert left needle from back to front under horizontal strand between st just worked and next st on left needle. Purl this new stitch through the front loop.

NOTES:

Many different lengths of circular needles are called for since Poncho begins with few sts and ends with very many. Change to longer length and add needles as needed. Use a different colored marker to indicate beg of rnd.

The Artful Poncho Reviewed by Stephanie Malone on 2011-09-22 ****
I really enjoy making ponchos and as soon as I saw this pattern I knew I had to make it. I love the stripes and I love getting to choose several colors (it's much more fun for me to knit with many colors instead of just one) for a single design.

The pattern is very easy and I have to agree with the previous reveiwer that the remaning rows of this pattern can seem never ending, but the end result is totally worth the time invested.

Blocking this poncho is an absolute must because when you are finished knitting it and you try it on for the first time, it will seem as though you made a scarf! Either by ironing, steaming or washing and laying flat to dry, you will get the drape that you see on the model in the photo.
