GAUGE:

12 sts + 16 rows = 4” (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS).

BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

Double increase (DI) K 1, insert left needle into row below in back of stitch just knit, knit this additional stitch, insert right needle into row below in back of next stitch on left needle and knit this new stitch, knit the stitch on left needle. Two new stitches have been added between the two existing knit stitches. ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and k them tog.

NOTES:

Capelet is cast on at the bottom edge and worked back and forth on a circular needle up to the neck. The center front seam is sewn leaving the collar open. When changing colors, leave a long tail for sewing front seam.
