You'll never tire of knitting (or wearing) this knockout pullover. One side is stitched top to bottom, the other side to side in an artful combination of yarns; details like garter ridges and fringed flap pockets keep things interesting. Looks fabulous on any figure!

Mix-It-Up Sweater

Lion Brand® Lion® Bouclé - Color Waves - Homespun® - Watercolors

GAUGE:

12 sts + 16 rows = 4” (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

Stripe Pattern
Sweater is worked in random stripes of any color or yarn, except Bouclé. Work in stripe pattern of choice (for example: 6 rows Homespun, 3 rows Color Waves, 8 rows Watercolors...). Insert Bouclé “mini-stripes” as follows: at random places on RS rows, drop yarn and work a random number of stitches in bouclé, turn work, knit back to starting point, cut Bouclé, turn and continue in previous yarn.

NOTES:

Sweater is designed to be knit with a creative mixture of yarns. Work swatch with a few rows of each color to determine what size needle to use to get closest to gauge.

Editor’s Note: When creating fringe using Homespun please note that because of the texture of the yarn the fringe will fray when cut. If you prefer a non-frayed look you can knot the ends, knit or crochet a fringe, or use hairspray or fray check.

RIGHT FRONT, BACK AND RIGHT SLEEVE

With longer needle and any yarn except Bouclé, cast on 39 (42, 47, 50, 54) sts. Work in random stripe pattern for 13 (13, 13, 13, 14)”, ending with a RS row.
Shape Sleeve: Continuing in stripe pattern, cast on 12 sts at beg of next row, then cast on 6 sts at beg of every other row 8 times – 99 (102, 107, 110, 114) sts. Work even in stripe pattern until Front measures 19 (19, 20, 20, 21)”, ending with a WS row.
Shape Neck (RS): Bind off 21 (21, 24, 24, 27) sts, work to end of row – 78 (81, 83, 86, 87) sts. Continue in pattern until neck edge measures 4”, ending with a WS row. Cast on 21 (21, 24, 24, 27) sts at beg of next row and continue on these 99 (102, 107, 110, 114) sts until lower edge of Sleeve measures 9 (9, 10, 10, 10)", ending with a RS row.
Shape Sleeve: Bind off 6 sts at beg of next and every following WS row 8 times, then bind off 12 sts next WS row – 39 (42, 47, 50, 54) sts. Work even in stripe pattern for 13 (13, 13, 13, 14) inches. Bind off loosely.

LEFT FRONT, BACK AND LEFT SLEEVE

With RS facing, longer needle and bouclé, starting at lower Right Front edge, pick up and knit 57 (57, 60, 60, 63) sts evenly along Front edge, then cast on 12 sts; starting at upper Back edge, pick up and knit 63 (63, 66, 66, 69) sts evenly along Back edge – 132 (132, 138, 138, 144) sts. Knit one row in Bouclé. Work even in stripe pattern until Left Front measures 6 (7, 7½, 8½ , 9)” from pick-up row, ending with a WS row.
Shape Sleeve: Bind off 39 (39, 39, 39, 42) sts at beg of next 2 rows – 54 (54, 60, 60, 60) sts. Work even until Left Sleeve measures 4”, ending with a WS row. Continue in stripe pattern, dec 1 st at each edge next and every following 4th row 14 (14, 15, 15, 15) times total – 26 (26, 30, 30, 30) sts. Work even until Left Sleeve measures 20”. Bind off loosely.

FINISHING

With RS facing, shorter needle and Bouclé, pick up and knit 58 (58, 62, 62, 66) sts evenly around neck opening. Join and work 4 rnds Garter st (p 1 rnd, k 1 rnd). Bind off in purl. With RS facing, shorter needle and Boucle, pick up and knit 26 (26, 30, 30, 30) sts along edge of Sleeve. Knit 4 rows. Bind off. Sew side and Sleeve seams. With RS facing, longer needle and boucle, pick up one st in each stitch at lower edge of sweater. Work as for neck opening.

POCKET

With yarn of choice, cast on 16 sts. Work 6” in garter st (k every row). Bind off. With another yarn, pick up and knit 16 sts along one side of pocket. Knit 2 rows. Continue in garter st, bind off 1 st at beg of every row until 1 st remains. Fasten off. Sew Pocket onto Right Front. Make 3 tassels out of yarn of choice and sew to lower edges of Front and Back and on Pocket.

TASSEL

Wrap yarn around piece of cardboard the length you want Tassel to be; the more times you wrap, the fuller your Tassel will be. Cut a piece of yarn 18” long and thread doubled onto large-eyed, blunt needle. Insert needle under all strands at upper edge of cardboard. Pull tightly and knot securely near strands. Cut yarn loops at lower edge of cardboard. Cut a piece of yarn 12” long and wrap tightly around loops a little below top knot to form Tassel neck. Knot securely; thread ends onto needle and weave ends to center of Tassel. Trim Tassel ends evenly.

Every time I have worn this sweater I have received compliments. I added a cowl collar and deleted the tassel.
