Lion Brand® Color Waves - Fun Fur®

12.4 sts and 18 rows = 4" (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS) with MC. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

ssk (slip, slip, knit): Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and k them tog.

With MC, cast on 66 (72, 78, 86) sts. Work even in St st for 3”

Shape Body: Dec 1 st each end every 6th row 5 times – 56 (62, 68, 76) sts. Work even until piece measures 11 (11½, 12, 13)” from beg.

Shape Armhole: Bind off 4 (5, 6, 7) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each end every other row 3 (4, 6, 6) times – 42 (44, 44, 50) sts. Work even until armhole measures 7 (7½, 8, 8½)”.

Shape Shoulder and Neck: Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 6 (6, 6, 4) rows, then bind off 5 sts at beg of next 0 (0, 0, 2) rows. Bind off remaining 18 (20, 20, 24) sts for Back neck.

With MC, cast on 37 (40, 44, 48) sts.
Row 1 (RS): K to last 2 sts, p 1, k 1.
Row 2: P 1, k 1, p across. Repeat Rows 1-2 until piece measures 3”.
Shape Body: Keeping 2 st Rib at front edge, dec 1 st at side edge every 6th row 5 times – 32 (35, 39, 43) sts. Work even until piece measures 9¾ (10¼, 10¾, 11¾)” from beg, ending with a WS row.
Shape Neck and Armhole: K to last 4 sts, ssk, p 1, k 1. Repeat dec every other row at neck edge 13 (14, 15, 17) times total. AT SAME TIME, when piece measures 11 (11½, 12, 13)” from beg, ending with a WS row, bind off 4 (5, 6, 7) sts at beg of next row, then dec 1 st at armhole edge every row 7 (9, 12, 13) times 12 (12, 12, 13) sts–.
Shape Shoulder: When armhole measures 7 (7½, 8, 8½)”, ending with a WS row, at armhole edge bind off 4 sts twice, then 4 (4, 4, 5) sts once.

Work as for Left Front, reversing shaping.

With 2 strands CC held tog, cast on 30 (32, 34, 34) sts. Work in Garter st (k every row) for 6”; break off CC. With MC, work in St st. Inc 1 st each end every 12th (10th, 8th, 6th) row 4 (5, 7, 10) times – 38 (42, 48, 54) sts. Work even until piece measures 18 (18½, 19, 19½)” from beg, ending with a WS row.
Shape Cap: Bind off 4 (5, 6, 7) sts at beg of next 2 rows; dec 1 st each end every other row 3 (4, 6, 6) times – 24 (24, 24, 28) sts. Work even until cap measures 3½ (4, 4¼, 4½)”, then bind off 2 sts at beg of next 8 rows – 8 (8, 8, 12) sts. Bind off all sts.

With 2 strands CC held tog, pick up and knit 94 (100, 104, 108) sts evenly around neck opening, beg and ending at beg of neck shaping. Work 16 rows in Garter st, then inc 1 st each end every 5th row 4 times – 102 (108, 112, 116) sts. Bind off all sts. Weave in ends.

Downloadable Pattern: Knit Uptown, Downtown Cardigan Reviewed by Sharyne Doughty on 2009-10-03 ***
I enjoyed knitting this pattern & found it very easy to follow.
The sizing is great but it doesn't really suit my curvy size 12 body. The thick collar makes a biggish bust look massive & the cut hides the waist. Would better suit a super thin young thing!!!
I wear it at home because it's so soft & cuddly on but my family says I look like a teddy bear in it ... yes, I made it in brown LOL!!!
