GAUGE:

10 sts + 10 rows = 4" (10 cm) in single crochet. Each square = 7" x 7" (17.75 mm).

SOLID SQUARE ñ Make 16 with MC, 8 with B (24 total) Ch 18.

Row 1 Sc into 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across ñ 17 sc. Row 2 Ch 1, turn. Sc into each sc across. Repeat Row 2 for 15 times more (17 rows).

DIAGONAL SQUARE I -- Make 8

With A, ch 18. Row 1 With A, sc into 2nd ch from hook and in each sc across ñ 17 sc.

Row 2 With A, ch 1, turn. Sc into each of next 16 sc, finish off 16th st with MC and sc with MC in last sc.

Row 3 With MC, ch 1, turn. Sc into each of next sc, finish off 2nd st with A, sc in each of remaining 15 sc. Complete square following chart below.

DIAGONAL SQUARE II ñ Make 8 With A, ch 18.

Row 1 With A sc into 2nd ch from hook, and in each sc across, finish off last st with MC ñ 17 sc.

Row 2 With MC, ch 1, turn. Sc into first sc, finish off st with A and sc across remaining 16 sc.

Row 3 With A, ch 1, turn. Sc in each of next 15 sc, finish off 15th st with MC, sc in each of next 2 sc. Complete square following chart below.

FINISHING With RS facing, sew squares together as per assembly diagram at top of pattern.

Border

With MC work 1 row sc evenly across each side edge. Attach B in upper right corner. *Work 92 sc evenly spaced across top; 3 sc in corner; 114 sc evenly spaced along side edge; 3 sc in corner; repeat from * once more. Working in rnds of sc, with 3 sc in each corner each rnd, work 2 rnds more in B; 1 rnd in C; 3 rnds in A. Fasten off.
