Knit Slipper Moccasins

Lion Brand® Wool-Ease® Chunky

GAUGE:

13 sts + 19 rows = 4" (10 cm) in St st (k every round). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

SLIPPER MOCCASINS – Make 2

Beginning at the cuff edge, cast on 28 sts. Join, being careful not to twist. Place marker to mark beginning of round.

RIBBING AND LEG

*K 2, p 2; repeat from * around. Work 8 rounds total in Ribbing. Continue in St st until Leg measures 8" from beg.

HEEL SHAPING

Knit to 7 sts before marker. Place last 14 sts on a holder; work Heel back and forth on remaining 14 sts.
Row 1 *Slip 1, k 1; repeat from * across.
Row 2 Slip 1, p across.
Repeat these 2 rows 6 times more (14 rows on Heel). Bind off 13 sts, keep last st on needle.

GUSSET AND GUSSET SHAPING

With same needle, pick up and k 7 sts from slipped sts on side of Heel; with 2nd needle, k across sts on holder; and with 3rd needle, pick up and k 8 sts from slipped sts on other side of Heel – 30 sts. Continue to work back and forth in St st as follows:
Row 1: K 6, k2tog, k 14, k2tog tbl, k 6.
Row 2 and all even rows: Purl.
Row 3: K 5, k2tog, k 14, k2tog tbl, k 5.
Row 5: K 4, k2tog, k 14, k2tog tbl, k 4.
Row 7: K 3, k2tog, k 14, k2tog tbl, k 3.
Row 9: K 2, k2tog, k 14, k2tog tbl, k 2.
Row 11: K 1, k2tog, k 14, k2tog tbl, k 1.
Row 13: K2tog, k 14, k2tog tbl.

FOOT

Knit even in St st on these 16 sts for 32 rows or 1¼2" less than desired length.

TOE SHAPING

Bind off 4 sts at beginning of next 2 rows, then bind off remaining sts.

SOLE

Cut a length of yarn. Divide into 2 pieces with 2 strands or plies each piece. Using needle, sew Slipper top to Sole. Weave in ends.

I did exactly what the pattern said, my gauge was right and I used the right sized needles and the same yarn, but the part around my leg was way too big, and they were way too short (don't leave 2" to bind off, like it says). The heel is way too shallow and it keeps slipping off, and it's way too tight on my foot. I'm not even going to bother making a second one
