Knit Lion Country Afghan pattern

Lion Brand® Wool-Ease®

GAUGE:

18 sts + 24 rows = 4inches (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal thread lying between the needles and placing it onto the left needle. Work this new stitch through the back loop of the stitch.

NOTES:

For ease in working, copy the 4 charts and join by taping together.

AFGHAN
With MC cast on 274 stitches.
Work in St st for 12 rows.
Cast on 10 sts at beg of next 2 rows -- 294 sts.
Continue in St st until 24 rows have been completed.

Beg with RS row, work 26 sts St st, work Row 1 of charts 1 and 2 (258 sts), end 10 sts St st. After 95 rows are complete, begin charts 3 and 4.
When charts are complete, work 26 rows St st. Bind off 10 sts at beg of next 2 rows; then work 12 rows more in St st on rem 274 sts. Leave stitches on needle.

FINISHING
Top Edging
With RS facing and #138 Cranberry, beg at upper right inside corner, pick up and k 10 sts up right side to last row, k across row, pick up and k 10 sts down left side to upper left inside corner-- 294 sts.
Row 1 (WS) Knit.
Row 2 (RS) (Miter Row) K 2, k2tog, k 6, M1, place marker (pm), k 1, pm, M1, knit to last 11 sts, M1, pm, k 1, pm, M1, k 6, k2tog through back loops, k 2.
Change to MC, rep Rows 1-2 three times.
Change to #138 Cranberry and rep Rows 1-2 once more.
Bind off knitwise.

Bottom Edging
Rotate blanket so bottom edge is at top. Repeat instructions for Top Edging, picking up and knitting sts across cast on edge.

Right Side Edging
Rotate blanket so right side is at top. With RS facing and $138 Cranberry, beg at right inner corner, pick up and k 10 sts up right side to side edge, pm, pick up 1 st at corner, pm, pick up 201 sts (4 out of every 5 rows) to left corner, pm, k 1, pm, pick up 10 sts to left inner corner -- 223 sts. Work same as top edging.

Left Side Edging
Work same as Right Side Edging.
Sew all corner seams. Weave in ends.
