Knit Striping Crew

Lion Brand® Kool Wool

GAUGE:

12 sts + 18 rows = 4" (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS) on larger needles. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and k them tog.

ssp (slip, slip, purl) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; pass them back to left needle; purl them together through back loop.

NOTES:

1. When working the stripe pattern, do not break off yarns when changing colors. Carry the unused colors up the sides of the work. When you have a color change and the new color is at the opposite side of the work, slide the stitches to the other end of the needle, turn the piece, pick up the new color and knit or purl as required to maintain St st.
2. Looking at the fabric from the right side, the dec at the right edge should lean left and the dec at the left edge should lean right. This is accomplished by working, with RS (WS) facing, ssk (ssp) for left-leaning dec, and k2tog (p2tog) for right-leaning dec.
3. Whether you work stripe pattern as indicated or make up your own, Back and Front stripes must match, and Sleeves and Body must match at least from armhole up.
