Crochet Southwestern Stripes

Lion Brand® Jiffy®

12 sts + 4 rows = 4" (10 cm) in Treble Crochet. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

With MC, chain 105.
Row 1: Treble crochet in 5th chain from hook and in each chain across – 101 treble crochets.
Rows 2 - 5: Chain 3 (counts as 1 treble), treble across.
Row 6: Change to A. Chain 2 (counts as 1 double crochet), work 1 double crochet in each stitch across – 101 double crochets.
Row 7: Change to B. Repeat Row 6.
Row 8: Change to A. Repeat Row 6.
Rows 9 - 13: Change to MC. Repeat Row 2.
Row 14: Repeat Row 7.
Row 15: Repeat Row 8.
Row 16: Repeat Row 14. Repeat Rows 1 to 16 until afghan is approximately 56" from beginning, ending with 5 rows of MC.

For each fringe, wrap A or B 9 times around cardboard. Space fringes 3 treble apart, alternating colors. Cut loops; trim ends evenly.

Crochet Southwestern Stripes Reviewed by Kathleen Forrest on 2012-08-06 *****
I made this afghan as a wedding gift for my daughter and her husband. I substituted Gold for the Country Green and I decreased the length and volume of the fringe. It looked lovely and was very easy to crochet so I'll probably make it again using different colors.
