Image of Dalmatian Pullover Knit

Our favorite children's movie inspired this scene-stealing look -- the hood even has dog ears! You'll have no bobbins to worry about with the easy-knit sweater -- the spots are duplicate stitched on after the garment is finished.

Dalmatian Pullover Knit

Lion Brand® Jiffy®

14 sts + 18 rows = 4" (10 cm) in St st with size 10 needles. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

Dalmatian spots are worked in CC randomly scattered across the sweater and hood. The spots are added in duplicate stitch after the knitting is complete. Charts given are sample large and small spots.

With smaller needles and MC, cast on 56 (58, 62) sts. Work in k2, p2 rib for 2 1/4", end with a WS row.
Next Row (RS):Change to larger needles and work in stockinette st (k on RS, p on WS) until piece measures 14 1/2 (16,17)" from beg.
Shape shoulders:Bind off 9 (9, 10) sts at beg of next 4 rows. Bind off remaining 20 (22, 22) sts.

Work as for back until piece measures 12 1/2 (13 3/4, 14 3/4)" from beg. Shape neck and shoulders:
Row 1 (RS): K 25 (25, 27), join 2nd ball of yarn, bind off 6 (8, 8) sts, work to end. Continue working both sides, AT SAME TIME, dec 1 st from each neck edge every row 7 times. Work even until piece measures 14 1/2 (16, 17)" from beg. Shape shoulders as for back.

With smaller needles and MC, cast on 26 (30, 30) sts. Work in k2, p2 rib for 2 1/4", end with a WS row.
Next Row (RS): Change to larger needles and work in St st, inc 1 st each side every 4th row 6 (6, 10) times, then every 6th row 2 (2, 0) times - 42 (46, 50) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 13 (13 3/4, 15)", end with a WS row. Beg sleeve gusset.
Sleeve gusset: Cast on 6 sts at beg of next row, p 6, k to end. Continue in St st with gusset in reverse stockinette st (p on RS, k on WS) until sleeve measures 14 3/4 (15 1/2, 17)" from beg. Bind off. Make 2nd sleeve with gusset on other side.
