Please see the gauge in the downloadable pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

I have knitted five of these hats now to give as gifts and everyone loves them! As another reviewer stated, I also knitted them an inch longer so that the hat can be pulled down over the ears. I plan on making many more hats from this pattern - when I need a hat pattern for a female, this is the one I always go to! It just is a very cute feminine hat(and very warm)!
