When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

This is a super cute bag, but the directions gave me such a headache. The amount of stitches do not add up correctly from the very first row...very frustrating. After row 1, I was able to muddle through, but the top (where draw strings go) gave me problems again. I would not rate this as an "easy" pattern due to the counting required...even though the stitches themselves are easy. I took completing this bag as a personal vendetta and did not enjoy this pattern at all. Once done, the bag is cute, though. I will not make another.
