15 sts + 21 rows = 4½ in. [11.5 cm] over St st. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

• Piece is knit from side to side, arm opening to arm opening. • Due to large number of sts, you may want to work back and forth on size 10 circular needle, 36 in. long.

BACK: Cast on 106 (116) sts. Work in St st until piece measures 40 (44) in. [100 (110) cm]. Bind off all sts.

LEFT FRONT: Cast on 106 (116) sts. Work in St st until piece measures 16 (18) in. [40, (45) cm] end with a WS row.

Neck Shaping:
Next Row (RS):
Bind off 4 sts (neck edge), work to end. Work next row (WS) even. Cont to bind off at beg of RS rows 3 sts once, 2 sts once, dec 1 st once – 96 (106) sts. Work even until piece measures 19¾ (21¾) in. [50 (55) cm]. Bind off all sts.

Work as for left front, reversing all shaping.

Sew shoulder seams. With RS facing, beg at left shoulder seam, work 1 row sc around entire piece.

beg = begin(s)(ning) cont = continu(e)(s)(ing)
dec = decreas(e)(s)(ing) RS = right side
sc = single crochet St st = Stockinette stitch
st(s) = stitch(es) WS = wrong side

Urban Wrap Reviewed by Glennis Farmer on 2014-05-08 *****
To stop the curl, crochet a 3 or 4 row of front and back post stitch all the way around after finished knitting Or Crochet 3 or four rows of half crochet. Either looks good.
If you don't crochet, plan a rib of 2 knit 2 purl all the way around for about 6 rows on bottoms and 2 purl 2 knit 2 purl up opening and neck as you go.
Any of these will look really great.
I'm doing this in Homespun Painted Desert with crochet front & back Post Stitch.
Will send picture when finished.
