Faux Patchwork Baby Blanket
Lion Brand® Babysoft®
GAUGE: 20 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter st (k every row). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION: V-STITCH EMBROIDERY
V-st Embroidery is worked back and forth between adjoining Strips to join, then across color change lines. V-Stitch Embroidery is worked in 2 steps:
Step 1
Thread large-eyed blunt needle with a length of C, doubled.
Working from left to right, work diagonal sts (as when doing cross stitch), spaced about ½ in. (1 cm) apart, across seam or color change line.

Step 2
Working from right to left, and inserting needle into same spaces (beginning and ending points) as Step 1 sts, work diagonal sts in the opposite direction of Step 1 sts.

When completed, Step 1 and Step 2 stitches will form a "\/"

BLANKET
STRIPS I AND V
With A, cast on 35 sts. Working in Garter st (k every row), work 5 in. (12.5 cm) each with A, B, C, B and A. Bind off.
STRIPS II AND IV
With B, cast on 35 sts. Working in Garter st (k every row), work 5 in. (12.5 cm) each with B, C, A, C and B. Bind off.
STRIP III
With C, cast on 35 sts. Working in Garter st (k every row), work 5 in. (12.5 cm) each with C, A, C, A and C. Bind off.
FINISHING
Lay Strips out in numerical order from left to right. With C, join strips with V-stitch Embroidery. Once strips are joined, work V-Stitch Embroidery across Blanket color change lines, to create a "faux patchwork." With C, work Blanket stitch along outside edge of Blanket, working 3 sts in each corner.
