I have made two of these hats for babies with no problem. I loved that it was self striping and the kit included the furry Pom pom. Everyone compliments it.

As the other posters have said, one ball makes a toddler sized hat. I have made hats for a small 6 and 9 year old and both required 2 balls (although I only used about 1 1/2). My gauge was perfect.

There is an error in the pattern. Nowhere does it tell you to join the first row of single crochet with a slip stitch but it states that you will now work in rounds. There really is no need to continue moving a stitch marker - you work until "you are almost out of yarn". This is pretty vague - does that mean you need to have 6 inches remaining? 12 inches? 36 inches?

The pattern was easy to follow if you could read minds and knew to slip stitch the hat together after that first round of single crochet. The yarn in the package was very attractive - the prettiest bright colors that would totally appeal to anyone! I had a hard time deciding because I loved all the colors. Once I started working with it, it felt like 2 different weights of yarn - the lighter white at the very bottom edge and the heavier colored and textured yarns. There is some white in the solid yarns that is more off white than the soft white at the bottom edge and seems out of place.

One skein made a very small hat. I used the directions for the third size (2-5 years) and I don't think the hat will cover the ears of the 4 year old who will be wearing it.

There are so many hat patterns and so many yarns out there that I don't think I will come back to this one or purchase Keppi again.

I just finished crocheting this hat for my granddaughter. It's a fast project perfect for working in an evening. It was fun and makes a really cute hat. I had to make the hat twice, though. The first time, I tried to make adult small. There just isn't enough yarn to make anything bigger than the 5-7 age and it's skimpy at that. I would sure recommend buying 2 balls if you want to make it for anyone other than a toddler. And yes, I checked and rechecked my gauge as I went.
