Wythe Slouch Hat Reviewed by Pam Wissman on 2013-12-26 *****
I knit this hat (with a few changes in the pattern) for my nieces this Christmas. They loved it. It is a very cute hat; looks good on almost anyone.
I found that I had to reduce needle sizes to 10 and 11 instead of 13 and 15 as the hat was just way too loose as pattern directed. I also had to increase my stitch count. I simply measured my own head just above the ears and then after knitting my gauge swatch and measuring to find out the number of stitches per inch,I figured I needed about 80 stitches (the number of stitches must be evenly divisible by four.)
I also used Vanna's choice yarn as it was a bit easier to work with and made the hat a bit stiffer and warmer.
This was fun. I had a good time choosing the colors and varying the striped pattern a bit. The only real trouble I had was in remembering to tuck the yarn ends in on the outside of the hat for the section which will be the rolled brim.
As I ended up with so many stitches, I used two rows to reduce the stitches before taking the stitches off of the needles, so I went from 80 to 40 stitches and then repeated the row, knitting two sts together all round to end up with 20 stitches in final row.
All in all a great pattern.
One more change I made: I only knitted this hat 10.5 inches long instead of 12. It still has enough body to have a rolled brim and a slouchy look to it.

Cute in College Colors! Reviewed by Dar Brown on 2013-10-15 ****
Made this for my daughter in her college colors, substituting LA Tan for the white to give it a cooler, vintage feel. Next time, I will cast on a few fewer stiches, as hat was large, even with Zoe's thick hair. Also, the yarn makes the hat very heavy on the back of her head and it tends to slip back, so I might make the hat a little shorter next time. Very soft yarn and cute pattern, though!
