It took me four tries to get the hang the basic pattern, but I'm glad I was persistent. You could wear out a tapestry needle weaving in the ends, but the result is worth it. For the blue and purple palette I substituted the following colors (in order A-E):Barrington, Black, Tudor, Colonial, Gothic.

I am doing this blanket now. I like large blankets though so I bought enough yarn to almost double the size of the patten. I am adding extra squares. If you want to take this blanket on, make sure you don't mind weaving in your ends. As with any blanket with numerous color changes, there are a LOT of ends to weave in. I am enjoying making this blanket though.

I am working on an afghan similar to this one. I Will be making a square for a sample to see if I really like it. I have read the directions and this pattern appears to be something I would like to make because the stitch is different than the one I a making now, and I certainly like the end results. I would probably have difficulty choosing a color only because their are so many that would compliment it.

Happy crocheter
