Crochet Hackysack-Style Juggling Balls Reviewed by Anna Hopson on 2011-08-19 *****
this is a great pattern. instead of using the G-6 crochet hook, i used D-3 and it came out perfect. im making two black with red striped and one red with a black stripe for my older brother. i put the stripe in for rows 10 and 11. my brother loves it. the best part of all is that it uses so little yarn, i can use my scrap yarn and dry beans from my kitchen for the filling, it made it the perfect weight to juggle. thx

I was hoping to use these as a hacksack for Christmas presents but this is definitely far to large to be used for that. However they come out the perfect size for juggling balls as in the title. Very cute pattern and I love how easy it is to follow.

Very easy pattern to follow! I made a few changes as I went, using a magic circle instead of the base chains and crocheting 2 together instead of skipping a stitch to decrease. I then filled old pantyhose with bird seed and twisted it shut prior to turning inside out and repeating, tying a knot on the last twist. My son says they are perfect for juggling, and my husband wants a set, too!

I love this pattern! I've made two sets of four in cotton yarn, minus the faces. I had a hard time finding plastic pellets, but found some in the floral department, sold as vase filler. I've found it helpful to weigh out the pellets ahead of time in small dishes, so each ball has the same heft. Old tights make great lining... you don't have to double them up quite as much as the nylons.

These were Super Fun to make. They didn't take much time..except figuring out what faces to put on them. Since I made three for my son and five for my brother (Bro is a better juggler!), that's a Lot of faces. In fact, I'm giving four stars instead of five because I would have liked a template or something to help with the faces..(but that's a very nit-picky gripe)I'm going to enter these in the county fair. Thanks for a Great FUN pattern!!
